In his biography of Tony Blair, John Rentoul tells the story of a young Blair being summoned to the dean of his college in Oxford to explain the presence of a lipstick that a cleaner had found in his room. “Oh, that’s mine,” said Blair, dismissing what the cleaner had taken to be evidence of female guests.
